PHOTO FRIDAY: Pray for rain

By Sarah Thomas, Intern

To put it simply we need rain. We need rain badly. Coming from a family in the business of raising corn and cows, I know how bad it is. But Indiana isn't the only state hurting from  lack of rain. Many states in the corn belt are experiencing the same effects on their corn crop. Colorado is fighting some pretty serious fires. Please be thankful as we approach the 4th of July holiday for this great Nation, founded on the back of the agricultural economy, and please pray for rain.

Hope you all have a great weekend and if you are attending any 4th of July celebrations be careful and cautious of the dry grass. And please keep all of those in Colorado, farmers and their crops in your thoughts and prayers.

Introducing Prosperity's Summer 2012 Office Crew

What's happening this Wednesday?

It's Wine Wednesday here at Prosperity's office! The summer 2012 office crew plans on staying after office hours to enjoy some wine and each other's company. It's a great time for us to get to know each other a little better, laugh, and share stories work related and non work related. It's also a great way for us to support the Agriculture industry and what a fun way to do so by drinking wine!

Does your office have any themed parties or activities?

What's Happening Wednesday: Prosperity's Past Interns

Where are Prosperity's past interns now?

Morgan Jarrett (Prosperity internship alum, 2010) has completed her junior year at Purdue University studying Agriculture Engineering with a focus in Environmental & Natural Resource Engineering. Morgan plans on graduating from Purdue in May of 2013.  At Purdue she holds officer positions in her sorority, Delta Gamma, and in the professional society ASABE (American Society of Agriculture & Biological Engineers).  "This year I had a great time as the crew chief for the Delta Gamma Grand Prix racing team and as a member of the Purdue Quarter Tractor Pulling Competition team," she says.

Interning with Prosperity was Morgan's first internship experience and she said: "It couldn't have been a better introduction to the professional world."  She also said: "Working with Sarah [Aubrey] really helped to solidify my decision to pursue a career in the field of agriculture and gave me a fresh outlook on the workforce outside of engineering."  Since her summer with Prosperity, Jarrett has worked with Grain Processing Corporation in Muscatine, Iowa and with Purdue Renewable Energy Extension.  She is located in Lafayette, Indiana at Purdue for school, but still spends time with her family in Washington, Indiana.  This summer she is taking summer classes and working at Purdue Renewable Energy Extension.

Rachel Bayless (Prosperity internship alum, 2011) has finished her junior year at Purdue University studying sales and marketing in the College of Agriculture.  She is also pursuing a minor in communications and has plans to graduate in May of 2013. This summer Rachel is a marketing intern at Pearson Education in the Pearson Technology Group. When she returns to Purdue, she will be a marketing intern for the Center for Career Opportunities. For the summer Rachel is living in Indy and during the school year she has plans to live in an apartment in West Lafayette.

"My internship at Prosperity was a valuable learning experience" said Rachel, who admittedly had little work experience before coming to Prosperity. She said: "I left with writing experience, sales and marketing experience, and a lot more confidence." Interning with Prosperity has prepared her for more internships. While at Prosperity Rachel worked on a marketing plan for Ms. Aubrey's books and was able to work directly with the book publishers. This prepared her for her internship this summer where she works with a publishing company. "The diverse writing experience I got at Prosperity has certainly helped me land internships since," said Rachel.

Earlier this week three farmer meetings were held to discuss the possibility of a food hub in central Indiana.  The meetings were held in Hamilton, Hancock, and Henry counties.  Roy Ballard, Hancock County Purdue Extension Educator - Agriculture & Natural Resources took some time with us to discuss the study and to give us his definition of "what is a food hub."  If you are interested in more information regarding the Central Indiana Food Hub feasibility study "like" us on Facebook.

PHOTO FRIDAY: The First of June

Today is June first and it's pretty cool and misty outside.  The flowers and cattle around the office are keeping me in a good mood on this Friday.

I cannot believe that it's already June! My first month with Prosperity went by too fast!  I have learned so much in just a month and I look forward to what June will bring for me.
